Registration Renewal Fees

This year, LPNs will pay $350 for their registration renewal if they renew between September 9 and October 31. The fee for renewing from November 1 to November 30 is $550. Last year, only 4% of LPNs renewed for the higher fee.

The CLPNA last raised the fee that we collect before the last month of renewal in 2012. Beginning in 2023, LPNs now obtain insurance separate from their registration renewal fees due to amendments made by Bill 46, the Health Statutes Amendment Act, 2020.

Employer Information

Under the Employer Information section, you can update your employment status. If you state that you are employed, you must list at least one employer. You will need to answer further questions about your employer(s) in order to proceed. Note that additional options have been added to better understand where LPNs are working in Alberta.

» Continuing Competence Learning Plans

Your learning plans for 2024 and 2025 need to connect to one of the four standards in the Standards of Practice for LPNs in Canada. Each standard has multiple indicators underneath.

You’ll need to be able to describe a connection between the learning you completed and the standard and indicator that you selected. Note that there is not a single right answer. The standards are broad concepts, and there may be more than one right answer. Select the single standard and indicator that you think work best.

Learning Plan 2024

You will need to provide information on the Continuing Competence Goals that you completed or will complete by the end of November. These goals may be the same as the ones you indicated at renewal last year, or they may have changed. We recommend reporting on three goals, with two goals being the minimum.

Learning Plan 2025

In the next section, you’ll select the learning that you plan to do in the following registration year. This is an opportunity to reflect on topics that you’d like to learn more about. The Standards of Practice for LPNs in Canada cover a wide range of practice areas for LPNs, including but not limited to clinical skills, leadership, policy development, fitness to practice, and learning related to regulatory responsibilities.

» Complete Registration Renewal

In the final section of the Registration Renewal Form, you will need to review and answer all of the declarations under the “Personal Declaration” heading. Ensure that you answer correctly as providing false information may be considered unprofessional conduct.

Once you have answered all of the questions, review the text under the “Registration Declaration” heading, and click the box at the bottom to acknowledge. Then you’re ready to complete your Registration Renewal Form by clicking the Submit button.

» Payment

You may be able to pay at this time. However, if your renewal form needs to be reviewed by the CLPNA, you will need to wait until you receive an email that tells you when you can pay.

It is always good to check your junk mail and to login periodically in case an email might have been missed.
